Vern and Shirley Blazek

Vern and I have been married for 45 years. Our first dog was an American Cocker Spaniel and he was also our first obedience dog. He was hit by a car which taught us the importance of dog fences and obedience training. I opened my first grooming shop at the age of 19. I am a self taught groomer. I attended countless dog shows to educate myself on the proper cuts and grooming of all the various breeds of dogs. As I followed the dog shows, I became very interested in the sport of showing dogs and the importance of correct conformation in all dogs.

As my interest in conformation grew, we were already very involved in obedience training and titling our dogs in obedience. After the passing of our Cocker Spaniel we focused our obedience training on Poodles and Boxers. We had the highest scoring Boxers in Ohio in the 1970's. We added boarding to our grooming services when we bought our kennel business. This became a full time job for us. During this time, I also became a Senior High School teacher at the Trumbull County Joint Vocational School. I taught an Animal Care Program which included Pet Shop, Lab Tech, Grooming, breeding and what ever else would give the young women and men a start in an animal related career. 
 

Obedience training services and conformation classes were added. We are still actively teaching both obedience and conformation 40 years later. It has been our luck over the years to breed, train and handle many different breeds of dogs. This has helped give us a more complete knowledge base and understanding of all dogs when instructing obedience or conformation classes.

We have bred quite a few different breeds in the last forty years and have had the great pleasure of breeding or owning 40 Champions along the way. In the later years we have fallen in love with the small but mighty breed of Dachshund. I have been a professional dog handler for last 20 years focusing on this unique breed with clients dogs as well as my own. All of my Dachshunds and Welsh Corgi were handled by us to their Championship titles.

Due to health reasons, I no longer show our dogs in the breed ring. I now focus all my time, love and dedication to improving the breed of Dachshund.
